Although Lee Curreri's parents encouraged him at a very early age to learn to play the piano, they were, he says, a little surprised when he decided that he was going to make a career out of his musical talents! Starting with the piano, Lee's interests in the performing arts expanded to include dancing and acting as well as music and from there it was a natural step for him to go into show business!

Bruno Martelli, Lee's character in Fame, is also a very talented musician, specializing as you might expect in keyboards, but whereas Bruno's interests tend to focus mainly around modern music, Lee's encompass the classics to a great extent, and he put this interest to great use when he wrote the incidental music to the film of Chekhov's Seagull. Bruno's tendency to scorn everything pre-1970 leads to arguments with his teacher, Professor Shorofsky - but he is slowly realizing that the classics are just as good, they're just good in a different way!
